How To Create Your Ventrilo User Name

To create your Ventrilo username click the top arrow button. This should open a new box labeled Setup User, after this is open click the New button located at the top. Here you create your Ventrilo username. After typing out your desired username hit the OK button, here you can also choose a phonetic. A phonetic is the text to speech feature that everyone hears when you connect and disconnect. After hitting OK again your username is all set up!

How To Connect To Your Ventrilo Server

To connect to your Ventrilo server, click the second arrow on the top of your Ventrilo panel. This will bring up a new box called Connection Editor. On the new panel click the New button at the top. This should open up a new box asking for the name of your new connection. After picking your connection name it is time to put in your Ventrilo server IP. MaxFrag offers free Hostnames, as an example chicago2.maxfrag.net is used. Make sure you put the correct port and password in for your Ventrilo server, and hit OK.

Now you can select your Ventrilo server from the drop down list, and click connect. You are now connected to your Ventrilo server.

How To Login As A Server Administrator (RCON)

To login to your Ventrilo server’s administrator feature you must first create a password through your MaxFrag panel at http://control.maxfrag.net/. Once you have set your admin password connect to your Ventrilo server.

When you are connected right click anywhere on your Ventrilo program. After your right click go down to the Server Admin menu. In this menu select the Login… option. This will bring up a prompt asking for your administrator password. Enter it then hit OK.

If your password was correct you should now be logged in as your Ventrilo server's Admin. If not, you will most likely be kicked from the server.

How To Add A Non-Admin User To Your Ventrilo Server

To create a non-admin user account for your Ventrilo server users, right click anywhere on vent. Go to Server Admin then User Editor.

In User Editor the first step is to click the drop down menu labeled Login Name. This will bring up a list of all the users in your Ventrilo server. Select the user you want to make the account for. Now you have to create a password for this person.

Now you have to set what allowances and permissions you want to allow this person. Make sure you go through all the tabs located at the top, Network, Transmit, and Display.

After creating your desired profile you can save it and load it when you need to add another user by saving the profile option, at the top of your User Editor.

How To Add An Administrator To Your Ventrilo Server

To add a User to your Ventrilo server as an admin follow the steps previously listed under “How to add a non-admin user to your Ventrilo server”. The difference between adding a user as an administrator is under the tab Admin you have to select the Server Admin option and add what allowances you wish to give this specific admin.

Note: Be choosey on who you allow to use the ban feature. A server admin CAN ban the owner!

How To Create and Delete Channels on Your Ventrilo Server

Creating new channels has never been easier then in Ventrilo 3.0. To create a channel in your new Ventrilo server you have to right click on your Ventrilo server’s name. After that you have to go down to the Chan Admin menu and select Create… This will bring up the Setup Channel Panel. Firstly, you have to provide a channel Display Name. Then if you want, you can set a custom phonetic for your new Ventrilo channel. You can also add a comment to the channel, this comes in handy when you have a URL or IP that you need to copy later. After selecting all of your wanted options just hit OK and your channel will appear in Ventrilo!

To delete a Ventrilo channel all you have to do is right click on said channel and go down to Chan Admin menu and select the Delete function.

How To Ban and Un-Ban Users on Your Ventrilo Server

To ban users from your Ventrilo server all you have to do is right click on their name and go down to Server Admin and select Ban. Provide or reason and hit OK.

To unban a user who was banned you have to go to the server ban list. You can find this feature by right clicking and going to your Server Admin menu. There you should see an option called Ban List. Once opened you should see a list of banned users on your vent. To unban someone highlight your target and click the Delete button located at the bottom of the window.

How To Change Your Ventrilo Servers MOTD

To edit your Ventrilo server's Message Of The Day (MOTD), right click and go to Server Admin there you will see an option labeled MOTD…. Once you open up this option a large text box will appear. This is your MOTD. Make whatever changes you want and then hit the Send button. This will change your MOTD for all of your users.

Ventrilo 3.0 servers come equipped with a guest MOTD also. You can find this directly under the MOTD… option.

How To Create, User, and Edit Ranks

To create ranks for your Ventrilo server, right click anywhere on your Ventrilo program. Go to Server Admin and then click on User Editor…. The fourth drop down box should have a button labeled Rank list…. Click on that button and a new window should pop up called Rank list. To create a new ranking go to Add. The abbreviation is what Ventrilo will tag the users in the server.

The description is a short description of the ranking, and lastly the level number is how powerful the ranking is. Once you fill everything out hit OK, and your rank will now be listed! To apply the rank to a user select the desired rank on your User Editor via the drop down menu and click the Update button on the bottom of the User Editor. Now the target should be assigned a rank on your Ventrilo server!

How To Configure Reserved Slots On Your Ventrilo Server

To put someone on your Ventrilo server's reserved list right click on your Ventrilo program and go to your User Editor…. There under the tab Network there is a check box labeled In Reserved List. Make sure the box is checked for the user you want to allow to be in the reserved list. Once you’re done click the Update button and your target user will be added to your Ventrilo servers reserved list!

How To Edit Guest Users

To edit guest users on your Ventrilo server open your User Editor…. Once in the User Editor highlight [Guest] user off to the left side menu, then the text box labeled Login Name should read [Guest]. This now means your guest tab is open to editing.

Now you can change all of the settings and allowances you wish to give to your guests.

Once you are ready to exit hit the Update button on the bottom. This will save any changes you made to your Ventrilo servers guest accounts.

How To Record On Your Ventrilo Server

Recording through Ventrilo is very easy. Recording can be useful when you are trying to frame somebody or just plain record something that is funny.

To start recording on your Ventrilo server right click anywhere on your vent application. Once the drop down menu is shown go to View then Record/Playback. Once you do this a new window will appear labeled Record/Playback.

To start recording click the Record button located on the bottom. This will start your Ventrilo recording. When you are down recording your desired material go back to the Record/Playback tool and click stop. This will stop your Ventrilo from recording any further conversations.

To playback a conversation jus select the target file and click Play.

How to Set a Custom Hostname

To set a custom hostname for ventrilo, you must own the domain name or be provided with one. If you have the domain smackdown.com, you must go to your domain control settings and set an A Record and point it to your ventrilo ip. A good example would be ventrilo.smackdown.com:3784. To register a domain, we recommend Go Daddy. If you would like web hosting along with a domain, we would recommend Ubiquity Hosting.

MaxFrag.net and other ventrilo providers offer custom hostnames for customers. For example, you may choose a custom hostname title like teamhyper, and they would provide you with a list of domains you can choose from. (teamhyper.maxfrag.net)

MaxFrag.net offers free custom hostnames to all their clients, so make sure to take advantage of the feature!

How To Join Two or Multiple Ventrilo Servers

Joining two or more Ventrilo Servers has become increasingly popular. Luckily for us, Ventrilo makes it easy to allow a user to join as many ventrilo servers as they wish.

Right click on your Ventrilo Shortcurt and go to Properties. After that, go to Target and add -m to the end of text (after the quotations).

Once that is done, you should be set.

Note: This will only work for the shortcut you added it too. All other shortcuts need to be editted accordingly.
